The Turkish launch of the documentary “Sen De Fark Et”, produced and directed by Engin Altan Düzyatan, about the problems caused by plastic and microplastic pollution in the world, took place.

DenizBank also took part as a supporter in the project realized in cooperation with BCSD Türkiye and main sponsorship of SOCAR Türkiye. Filmed in six different countries, Sen De Fark Et documentary consists of three parts and lasts 90 minutes in total.

The documentary “Sen De Fark Et”, produced and directed by actor and environmental volunteer Engin Altan Düzyatan, which aims to draw attention to the danger of plastic waste and microplastics polluting the world's natural resources, met with audiences in Turkey after its launch at the climate change summit COP28 in Dubai last December. Filmed in Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Japan, the Philippines, Japan, the UK and Turkey, You Better Notice, which took nearly four years to produce, was premiered at the press launch held at Feriye Cinema on April 16.

The documentary, which consists of three parts and lasts 90 minutes in total, aims to raise mass awareness about the danger of plastic waste by following the journey of plastic waste and its impact on the environment in six different countries. Aiming to contribute to the adoption of sustainable practices and the reduction of plastic waste pollution in the society, the documentary “You Too Make a Difference” is based on the principle of “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”.

At the screening of the documentary Sen De Fark Et, which was attended by representatives from the press, NGOs and the business world, Engin Altan Düzyatan, Ebru Dildar Edin, Chairman of the Board of the Business Council for Sustainable Development (BCSD Türkiye), Elchin Ibadov, CEO of SOCAR Turkey, and Hakan Ateş, CEO of DenizBank Financial Services Group, delivered speeches.

Ebru Dildar Edin, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of BCSD Türkiye, expressed her satisfaction for being a business partner of the project in the following words: “As BCSD Türkiye, our most important goal in participating in this project is to raise awareness in the society by drawing attention to the damage caused to our world by plastic pollution, which is a global problem. According to World Bank data, 70 percent of the approximately 350 million tons of plastic produced annually goes to landfills or is incinerated, only 10 percent is recycled and the remaining 20 percent enters the environment. The amount of plastic that enters the environment every year is equal to three times the weight of cars in Turkey. According to the OECD, about 1.7 million tons of these plastics end up in the oceans. At this rate, it is estimated that by 2050, plastic waste will outweigh all the fish in the sea. Pollution on land and water is carried from the soil and the sea to our food, endangering the existence of all living things. While the documentary informs the viewers about all these facts, it also aims to raise awareness among individuals, the business world, the public, the scientific community and the public.

In his speech at the launch of the documentary, SOCAR Türkiye CEO Elchin Ibadov said: “As a company that produces petrochemical raw materials, we are a much more sensitive, responsible and aware organization regarding the environmental problems we face globally. There is an increasing demand for plastic all over the world and plastic will continue to be in our lives for a long time. In parallel with the increase in demand, we support the efficient use, conscious consumption and chemical recycling of plastic. One dimension of this support is the projects we develop at our R&D center in cooperation with the European Union (EU), universities and organizations such as TÜBİTAK. The other dimension of the support is to raise public awareness on waste management. This is why we sponsored the documentary 'You Better Notice', which we are launching here today. As the main sponsor, we are pleased to support the documentary, which draws attention to plastic and microplastic pollution in the world and emphasizes the importance of taking steps towards a cleaner future with the principle of “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”."

DenizBank Financial Services Group CEO Hakan Ateş said “Plastic pollution is an important agenda item that triggers the climate crisis with the environmental destruction it causes and the threat it poses to the ecosystem. Today, the seas are under an unprecedented plastic invasion. Every year, tons of plastic waste is dumped into the oceans and ends up on our tables through the food chain. In less than 30 years, it is estimated that there will be more plastic than fish in the oceans. As DenizBank, we are aware of the responsibility of the finance sector in combating climate change. With this awareness, we support our farmers to continue their production, increasing the participation of women in the economy, protecting natural resources and transition to a low-carbon and sustainable economy with all our resources. We are also very happy to support the documentary “Sen de Fark Et Et”, which draws attention to an issue of vital importance for the future of our planet such as plastic pollution."
