The Central Anatolia Natural Gas Combined-Cycle Gas Turbine Power Plant (İÇAN) is one of SOCAR’s strategic investments that strengthens its energy value chain in Türkiye. With an installed capacity of 870 MW, the facility makes a significant contribution to Türkiye’s electricity supply security through high-efficiency combined-cycle technology.
Capacity Transformation and Operational Roadmap
The investment process for the SOCAR İÇAN Combined-Cycle Gas Turbine Power Plant began in December 2013, and the plant commenced full-capacity electricity generation in the last quarter of 2016. Following the acceptance of Gas Turbine Units 1 and 2 in 2016, the steam turbine acceptance was also completed, and the facility entered commercial operation with an installed capacity of 840 MW. As a result of technical evaluations conducted in 2017, the capacity was increased to 853 MW, reaching 870 MW as of 2023.
Integrated Value Chain from Gas to Power
In line with its Integrated Value Chain from Natural Gas to Power approach, which complements natural gas trading and supply activities with electricity generation, SOCAR Türkiye offers an integrated energy structure through the SOCAR İÇAN Combined-Cycle Gas Turbine Power Plant within its portfolio. This structure enables the high-efficiency conversion of natural gas into electricity while creating value-added trading opportunities in both domestic and international markets. Through this integrated approach, SOCAR Türkiye operates in a cohesive, effective, and competitive position across different stages of the energy ecosystem.
The Role of Power Generation in the Integrated Value Chain
By integrating electricity generation into its value chain, SOCAR Türkiye establishes a stronger and more balanced structure across the energy value chain extending from natural gas to electricity. High-efficiency combined-cycle gas turbine technology contributes to base-load and balancing requirements in the domestic market while providing competitive capacity for electricity trading. This integrated structure strengthens SOCAR Türkiye’s position within the regional energy ecosystem and supports sustainable and dynamic portfolio management. The plant’s flexible operational structure enables rapid adaptation to market conditions, enhancing overall comm
